OverviewAlan and Jacqueline are separated by the English Channel. Who would know that their worlds would become entwined? After a telegram arrives in June 1940, Alan's family are thrown into mourning. The family try to come to terms with their loss, but are offered hope when Jack, a soldier from Alan's regiment, contacts them and tells them the truth of what happened to their son in France. Across the Channel, we follow Jacqueline, a young schoolteacher, and her family as they struggle to live in occupied France. After his fiancée and her family are taken by the Gestapo, Jacqueline's brother, Philippe, joins the resistance. Jacqueline's family play a secret part in the resistance, aiding Philippe as he climbs the ranks. After some time and a considerable loss to the family, Jacqueline also joins the resistance and leaves her family behind. Through many ups and downs and Jacqueline's secret, these two families live through the war. What will become of Jacqueline and Alan as they both fight against German oppression? She has two brothers, Christopher and Wayne. After the failure of her first marriage and the birth of her three children, she married the love of her life, Ian, and they have been married for 31 years. She has written two other books, Steel to Muck in 2013 and Above and Below the Clouds in 2015, after being diagnosed with brittle asthma and bronchiectasis in 2006. These illnesses limit what she can do as she gets breathless, but one thing she can do is write. Writing helps keep her mind active. She also has eleven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
