HEIKO FELDNER is Lecturer in Modern German History in the School of European Studies at Cardiff University, UK. He is the author of Das Erfahrnis der Ordnung (1999), joint general editor of Hodder-Arnold's Writing History series on historiography and historical theory, and co-editor of its first volume.
