Overview

Zara was born in Iran, grew up there, fell in love, worked, and went to university. But in Iranian society, she was considered and viewed as an Afghan refugee. So, her life couldn't go beyond the struggle to survive. All her doors were closed, and Iran would never be her homeland. She decided to move to Afghanistan and try a new life. Despite her good start, things went from bad to worse. She was stuck in a certain lifestyle in Kabul City. She had no path to return and failure was not an option. Zara had to struggle to find her way out. Finally, brighter days arrived. But with the emergence of the Taliban and the collapse of Afghanistan, her plans failed. After her evacuation from Kabul, she arrived to the US to begin a new life...

Hussain Etemadi was born in August 1981 in Afghanistan. With the invasion of the Soviet Union, his family migrated to Pakistan and then to Iran. An environmental engineer, he has a bachelor's and master's degree from Tehran University, Iran, and a Ph.D. from Hafen City University Hamburg and EAWAG/ETH Switzerland.He likes nature, words, deep conversation, and world-class movies. His love for books started at a very young age when reading and imagination were the only way out of his small, isolated world. Following years in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and Europe, the U.S. has become his home since 2018.
