Overview

Seven Bosnian men show up at a US Army checkpoint in Bosnia-Herzegovina and find themselves in a Serbian jail. Now, nearly 30 years later, someone is killing people who were at the checkpoint that day. Former government operative Will Oleson and TV reporter Kari Dahm are caught in the middle of the killing spree. Along the way, they confront their pasts. John Bestul served in Bosnia in 1996 when the real Zvornik 7 were arrested. Combining his knowledge of that event with his past as a television reporter, he's been able to write a novel that takes you from the Balkans to the woods of his former home in northeast Wisconsin. Z7 is favorably compared to novels by David McColoskey (Damascus Station, Moscow X), Paul Vidich (Beirut Station), and Alan Furst (Spies of the Balkans).
