Author Information

Yosuke Uchiyama is an expert on shared mobility and the gig economy in ASEAN. He obtained his Master’s degree and PhD from Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is currently serving as a research fellow at the Transportation Institute, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. His academic expertise lies in business economics and transportation studies, focusing on the working conditions and regulatory frameworks of platform labourers, particularly those engaged in ride-hailing and food delivery services within the gig and sharing economies. He also explores the challenges and possibilities of new labour models in the digital economy, including platform capitalism and platform cooperativism. Fumitaka Furuoka is a Japanese economist who has lived in Malaysia since 1987. From 1991 to 1999, he worked as a senior assistant at the Consulate General of Japan in Penang. Fumitaka then moved to academia and has taught economics for 25 years at three Malaysian public universities, namely, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, and Universiti Malaya. His academic expertise is in the field of applied economics which involves applying economic and econometric theories to address real-world critical economic issues and problems. His research aims to identify barriers and initiate policies that promote and enable diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) in the workplace, full employment and justice for all.
