OverviewNorman Klocke had no idea that through heredity he was predisposed for manic-depressive behavior when he experienced his first manic episode in 1978 at the age of 28. After enduring nearly two years of prescribed tranquilizers and Freudian based psychotherapy, he miraculously found a physician who was far ahead of his profession in the practice of biological psychiatry . With a correct diagnosis of bipolar disorder, Norman began a 30-year journey to regain his health. First he needed appropriate and affordable medical care and medications that improved over the years. He recognized several important ingredients that contributed to his success including, a strong faith, loving and supportive parents, farm life, physical fitness, adopted brothers, strong friendships, professional colleagues, and mentors. He had to overcome his own stigmas surrounding mental health disorders to come to realize that they are a part of physical maladies. Finally, he challenges readers to overcome their own biases for those who exhibit crazy behavior.
