Overview

The Warm Kitty Institute was founded in 2011 to further research and development for providing real and lasting warmness for kitties. The Institute enjoys worldwide reknown for furthering the cat-lead research sciences. Less well known is that the Warm Kitty Institute similarly houses many prolific literary cats. The feline poets of the Institute, however, would rather nap than write poetry books for re-gifting, so their first Anthology is a long time coming. The Institute issued a call for poetry to the various and far-flung Warm Kitty Insititute annexes worldwide. By and large, the kitties preferred to respond with carefully posed selfies. But a few poems arrived also. Reading poems by cats may prove ill-advised, but much in the literary realm shares that distinction. Their poetry orbits a few interrelated themes: napping, eating, the desire to kill, and lodging formal complaints about the lodgings. The Institute chose to include many of the selfies in the premier Anthology; no one wanted to inform those kitties that selfies don't count as poetry, even when they are very pretty. Join in a journey through feline obsessions, rivalry, and tradition. And selfies.

Author Information

Alice Eileen Fritz is a polymath artist, and recovering software engineer living in the greater NYC Metro area. She espouses a media-agnostic approach to art but tends to favor ceramics, metals, and glass. The written word was her first love for creative expression, and poetry in particular, because it traces the negative space around ideas and emotions which otherwise remain intangible. Humans are intrinsically creative, sound asleep we create whole worlds with alternate physical laws even. In the pre-internet era it was difficult to share information. Now we find it more difficult to define our individuality. She reflects, I'm fascinated by that drive to differentiate and yet to nevertheless belong to a collective. Her work has been included at exhibitions at the Silvermine Guild Art Gallery (New Canaan CT) and The City Lights Gallery (Bridgeport CT). Her work has also been featured in Paper Magazine, and has been available at The Birds Nest Gallery, Fairhaven Furniture, the Shop at Guilford Art Center, and Creative Arts Workshop's Celebration of American Crafts.
