My mom was a writer. Well she was many things, but she always wanted to author books. She even tried once but her idea was rejected by a publisher. So I follow in her footsteps. I'm a follower and believer in Jesus Christ. I'm also a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, neighbor, and pastor. I like to say I'm a lover and a fighter, and I'm definitely a dreamer and peace maker. I'm creative in nature (but so are all of us) and want to bring encouragement and hope into this world. My mom authored a letter of encouragement to me two weeks before she passed from this life. In the letter she said, ""Clouds are beautiful- skies are blue."" I think that was one of many ways she was telling me to look up! Remember there is more to life than what is happening on this green earth in the moment. I can't think of better words in this COVID-19 crisis. Look up and remember, clouds are beautiful and skies are blue. May this book bring you joy, beauty, encouragement, love, and magic. Art has been a constant in my life since I was a little kid. I had a dream of one day illustrating a children's book. That dream has stuck with me all my life, through all my life stages and occupations. Over time I have gotten closer to my goal and am now doing actual illustration work. I love bringing people's stories to life through traditional and digital drawing mediums. You might be wondering about the name. It's a nod to some key aspects of my life: I have two main interests that I pursue together with my husband; rock climbing, and wine (not at the same time). When climbing, I am continuously learning how my body and mind work together to determine my next step, my next hold, and to get me to my goal. With regards to wine, my husband and I own a small business making and selling it. I enjoy being able to showcase my artist's mind by designing all the product labels and building and managing our website. Both of these interests contributed to the naming of Climbing Vine Illustrations.Additionally, however, I enjoy the life metaphor that the name suggests: I picture a vine climbing towards the sunlight, much like our souls climb towards the truth, meaning, and beauty in our lives. Like vines need to be pruned in order to bear fruit, we often need to allow the distasteful parts of ourselves, the parts that are holding us back, to be cut away in order to properly grow. As a person of faith, and as a wife and mother, this imagery has stuck with me. My hope is that my art and illustrations can help tell stories of truth, meaning, and beauty.Follow my illustration pages on social to see more of my work.
