Overview

So you see, we're going to be friends forever, you and me. Even long after you've gone home, wherever home may be. Pediatric nurses have the responsibility of caring for the smallest of patients, but it is their greatest honor to be their patients' friend. Through the good days and bad, your nurse will keep you safe, and comfort you when you are sad. They will walk you through scary things, holding your hand when something stings. It won't always be easy, and not often enough fun, but they will cheer you on until your hospital stay is done. Your nurse and your friend, they both will be until the very end.

Author Information

Kelly Keutmann Fleming is a certified pediatric registered nurse and has been working with pediatric patients for over ten years. After graduating from San Diego State University School of Nursing, she began her nursing career in a pediatric intensive care unit, where she took care of a fifteen-month-old boy who changed the way she viewed her relationship with her patients. Recognizing how scary hospitals can be, she saw a need to show kids that nurses are not only there to provide the best care for them, but are there to walk them through every step of the way as their caretaker and friend. Kelly resides in Santa Cruz, California, with her husband, Chris, and daughter, Mila.
