Overview

Everyone will struggle against some resistance at some point in their lives. We may be wired to seek comfort. But here is something very interesting about that wiring: we are wired to seek the best kind of comfort. So, if there promises to be comfort better than the one we currently live in, we will have a natural inclination to seek after it. Ironically, one cannot reach a better kind of comfort without having to overcome some resistance. It is like moving into a new and more furnished house. You do not get off your bed and walk into that house. You do a lot of planning and making sure things turn out fine. What makes the difference between the successful and fit, and the unfit, is that the fit do not make excuses for themselves when in the face of resistance. They do not back down or convince themselves that they are not enough . With the right mindset, they get on their feet and begin to find better for themselves, knowing that the world only gives better to the people who are not scared to demand. The ones who demand, get, whilst the ones who don't, get nothing. The unfit, on the other hand, live in a pseudo comfort called denial, which has been described by this book as being one of the most important enemies of health and fitness. Denial is telling yourself that you are fine with an uncomfortable situation even when deep down, you know that you are not. Divided into eight chapters, this book pulls you out of denial barely one chapter in. The first chapter brings you to exactly what weight loss is and how weight loss is able to impart your life and health. It goes beyond just your physical life. It eats into everything, even your mental health. It is known that people who are largely overweight struggle with their self image. Sometimes, it is so bad that they enter into depression and anxiety. It is not a chapter to scare you: it is but a means to motivate you. The second chapter is a light of hope. It extends to you a great kind of encouragement. Though it may not seem like it at the start, weight loss is very possible, no matter how much you weigh right now. It may take some time, yes, but you will not be worn out if you have prepared enough for this journey. All the preparation you need happens first in your mind. It begins with seeing the possibility; telling yourself that you can do this even when it does not seem like it. You can find this motivation in books, and in many videos on the internet. YouTube is swarming with stories of people who kicked excess weight in the ass.And as much as it may sound untrue, you too can smack excess weight in the ass. You just have to learn to be patient with yourself and avoid one of the most common potholes people fall into at the start of their task. This is the porthole of comparison. As you will see in the book itself, comparison is not only a thief of joy; it is also a thief of motivation. And at this point in your life, you cannot afford to lose your motivation over anything at all.The third chapter introduce you to the science of weight gain. Whilst this is not talked about often enough, it is the skeleton of weight loss. A proper understanding of how weight gain happens is going to make your weight loss journey pretty easy. This chapter introduces you also to the concept of calories. A calorie is the unit of energy stored in food. It is important that one knows about calories because one is then able to find his or her own ways to limit the number of calories they take. The calorie contained in a food is not the size of that food. Some large foods contain far less calories than heavy ones. The fourth chapter of this book, and the one which follows it discusses how weight is lost. It has been established that weight loss happens when one creates a deficit in the intake of calories and the burning of calories.
