You are not here

Overview

I would be with you when you are asleep I would touch your head with my hands I would hug you and stroke your cheeks I'd be with you when you dream And every night I would be there You are not here is a book of poetry reflecting on life and love. It is poetry to think about, to dream to, and is illustrated throughout with full-colour plates of the poet's artwork. It's coming closer every day Are you where the sun always shines? Are you walking in the sand of the beach? Where the water reaches up to your toes? Are you making footprints in the sand Just to show that you were there?

Author Information

Birgit Ohms was born in Sweden; she studied commercial art in Stockholm and later fashion art in Munich, Germany, eventually practising in the US and Canada. Retired now, she has dedicated herself to writing. You are not here is her third published work; other titles are Marie & Gwen You're Late Again (published by Scholastic) and One Way Ticket (Friesenpress). She is happy to share this book and hopes readers will enjoy both the words and her illustrations. She says: ""You might want to read it alone, thinking back on your own experiences, sometimes with a tear, sometimes with a smile. Perhaps you'll be glad that somebody has the same thoughts as you!"" She lives in BC, and has three children: a son who lives in Sweden, and two daughters who also live in Canada.
