As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I am well aware of the effects separation has on a family. Bonding and attachment are essential to healthy development. Long absences from a loved one is challenging, whether it is military or civilian deployments. You Are Always With Me is something tangible to read and hold, and will bring comfort and connection to those left at home. Children, in particular, do better with something material when there is going to be a separation and this book is perfect for that. This touching poem captures the nuances unique to deployed families. The gender-neutral illustrations are thoughtful and inviting and make this book applicable to many family formations. Author Information

"Daniel L. Berry originally wrote the poem that became his first book, ""You Are Always With Me: A Poem for Those at Home When a Loved One Deploys"", as a way to connect with his family while working overseas in support of the military. As a civilian contractor pilot, Daniel had the privilege of flying over 500 combat support missions over 14 deployments during Operations Enduring Freedom and Freedom's Sentinel. He continues to work as a professional pilot, and is a member of the Military Writer's Society of America. Daniel has always been passionate about writing. He earned a bachelor's degree in English Writing from the University of Colorado, and has completed additional coursework through the UCLA Extension Writer's Program. When Daniel isn't writing or spending quality time with his supportive wife and two rambunctious daughters, he enjoys playing guitar, and is a songwriter, recording artist, and performer.
