Overview

Yonder Mountain; Or, the Life Between is a pleasant blend of fact and fiction; of short stories and sketches; of boyhood memories and the elapse of time between. It is written with the tender care and wisdom of a true elder who has spent his life in love of creation and Creator, and has been skillfully interlaced with the simple timeless truthes of the Native American people and their beautiful way of life. It is a book of small things . . . genuine things, like friendly forest critters, campfires, and a rustic mountainside cabin where stories of yesteryear live-on and the haunting shrills of a loon can be heard penetrating deep into the night air from a woodland lake below. And lastly, it is a book of short meaningful poems and watercolor vignettes that, at first glance, could appear to be the paintings of a little child, yet somehow still possess that rare, seasoned, almost mystical power to suck you into that cozy little place where we have ALL longed to be . . . Yonder Mountain.

Reviews

The book is a breath of fresh air! The stories and poems are short and sweet, and simple. Even after reading just one of them I carry a deep peace inside. Life does not have to be as complicated as we make it! This is not to say it is shallow by any stretch. On the contrary, there is great depth here. I highly recommend it, and look forward to the author's next book. - Paula R. Holtz, Assistant Pastor - Monroe Vinyard Church Finally, a calm soothing read that breaks the hypnotic spell of everyday life in modern society! Simply put, in Yonder Mountain, the broken-record-effect is broken and The Wall has come down! It is a revival of authentic American literature where the beauty of simplicity, humility, and truth are properly restored and brought to the forefront, heralding the dawn of Wisdom's divinely appointed return under the sun. - Tim teo The Magn fico, Philanthropist and Singer/Songwriter (Babylon, Fork in the Road, Power to Love) Is this a book of great affectation that will make your head swim? Oh HELL NO my friend! This is a book of wisdom and demands your patience. It is a book of truth, one that leads to the ancient paths, where the good way is . . . come, walk in it, and you will find rest for your soul. A must read for anyone with a heart still beating in their chest. - Straight-Talkin' Tim, host of The Old Plantation broadcast (Triple 8 Studios) triple-8-studios.com

Author Information

Steven J. Anderson is an independent author and retired carpenter. His main passion and pursuit, however, has been the lifelong study of the Native American people and their culture, especially the Lakota Sioux of South Dakota. Steven has made multiple charitable excursions out to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota (the single most poverty stricken and largely forgotten geographical area in the United States). Putting his carpentry skills to further use, he and his sons, over the years, have done small home repairs for low income families there. Steven's Yonder Mountain series is largely dedicated to the Lakota people. He has learned to speak their native language and will often use Lakota words and names in his writings. His short story, 'Dakota Land' in Yonder Mountain; Or, the Life Between (vol.1) is based upon the actual account of one of his trips to the Pine Ridge Reservation. Needless to say, the Lakota people have been a great inspiration and blessing to Steve and his family in many ways. Steven resides in South East, Michigan and is currently working on a new title, 'Night Song, ' the second volume in his ongoing Yonder Mountain series.
