OverviewThis is a display of the relationship between asana yoga postures and meditation which is termed as samyama by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. History tagged postures as yoga. Physical body positions are however the third development of yoga. When the positions are done to proficiency, a yogi/yogini realizes that there is a subtle energy, which is involved. That is the breath. Its discipline is listed as the fourth stage of yoga. Food and air enter the body though the mouth and nose respectively. Food is matter of fact, while air is subtle. When one does body positions, that is one stage of yoga, the third stage. At some point in the practice of these positions, one may realize that there are subtle maneuvers, which occur when doing physical postures. There is a psyche which runs parallel to the physical body. When the physical system is operated, some subtle movements and shifts occur. To realize these one should focus internally. One should discover and map the energy configurations which produce the feelings. These psychological formations can serve as a spontaneous target for focus.
