Xocomecatlite is a tellurate mineral found in cracks in altered rhyolite; it was first discovered in a mine in Moctezuma, Sonora, Mexico, and has also been seen in Utah, in the United States. Its description was approved in 1975. The name is derived from xocomecatl, the Nahuatl word for bunches of grapes , and alludes to the mineral's appearance as a set of green spherules. The tellurate ion is TeO42ae' or TeO66ae'. Unlike sulfate, tellurate is a somewhat good oxidizer; it can be reduced to tellurite or tellurium. Tellurate exists in two forms, metatellurate ion, TeO42ae', and orthotellurate ion, TeO66ae'. Compounds include metatellurates and orthotellurates. Metatellurates are analogous to sulfates, but they are rare. Full Product DetailsAuthor: Lambert M. Surhone , Miriam T. Timpledon , Susan F.
