He has worked in and around book publishing since the mid-1970s, first doing research leading to publisher mergers and acquisitions. Then he learned about how books are made as the production coordinator for one of America's largest textbook publishers. Later, while a marketing executive for technology companies and international NGOs, he founded publishing business units and did his first self-publishing, starting in the 1990s. He has a certificate from the Stanford Professional Publishing program. Mike developed the Publish-It-Yourself Workshop to help adult education students transform their writing into books and founded Touchwood Press to coach writers and provide publishing services using digital tools and print-on-demand technology.
