Author Information

Niu Xiaoguang is from Shenyang, Liaoning Province. She graduated from Franklin University with a bachelor's degree in accounting and obtained a master's degree in translation from Macquarie University. She likes to tie Chinese knots in her spare time. Her mother is a Chinese traditional handicraft lover who is proficient in paper cutting, weaving, and cross stitching. Influenced by her mother since childhood, she likes Chinese folk handicraft art, especially Chinese knotting. She remembers when she was a child, her mother would interweave the colorful thin threads and tie them on my wrist at Dragon Boat Festival. She told the author that the threads could ward off evil. The author thought it looked pretty and she was pleased to wear it. Her mother often did traditional crafts, and the author would watch beside her. Gradually, the author tried making handicraft by imitating her mother. Among the crafts, her favorite is Chinese knotting. At first, she just considered it was a game, because she could make many patterns with a single rope and found it was fun and straightforward. Gradually, the Chinese knot became her hobby. Tying Chinese knots always brings her a peaceful mind and makes her concentrate on the knots in her hands. She really likes this state of concentrating wholeheartedly on the work, and she also enjoys the creation process from scratch, and the sense of accomplishment after the completing a knot.
