OverviewWorking with Young People is a text and reference for students and professionals. It examines issues concerning young people, their place in society and the practices of professionals who work with them. The authors bring together original research and theory to examine some of the traditional areas of youth inquiry, including youth subcultures, unemployment and crime. They also address current issues such as health, suicide, the media, identity and violence. The authors argue that despite the public perception that many young people aren't coping, they are normally able to deal with the challenges of their own lives quite competently and they are active agents in their own lives. They also argue that the term 'youth' is a homogenising category and that this is not a homogenous group. With an accessible style and questions to stimulate debate at the end of each chapter, Working with Young People is a completely reworked edition of the author's previous collaboration Youth Studies (1998). It is an invaluable resource for students, human service practitioners and a broad range of professionals who work with young people. It is written for an international readership.
