Overview

Words Will Never Hurt Me presents practical, memorable and fun methods to empower children to handle bullies and difficult people. The tools that are introduced in this book will allow children to feel relaxed and in control in situations that used to make them feel stressed and inadequate. You'll be amazed by how easy it is for children to apply these concepts and how effective they are. Parents and educators will gain an understanding of why putdowns, taunting, and power struggles happen, and how children can respond to bullies in a way that diffuses the bully's power over them. Employing these strategies, children who have previously been victims will disarm bullies and become undesirable targets for them in the future. Using quotes, humor and real-life examples, Sally Ogden makes it easy to remember and apply the skills which could make children's relationships more pleasant and their lives more enjoyable. In the process of helping kids, adults may be surprised at the power and benefit this information has for their own lives!

Reviews

I love the way the author wrote this book. It tells you everything you already knew, but puts it in words that make it easier to intersect bullying. It not only helped me to educate my daughter on how to handle bullies, but it helped me to handle grown-up bullies in my work place. I highly recommend this book! - Christine Byczeck Really helpful, in class now with 4th graders and plan to apply techniques with special ed kids. Noticed children bullying TA as well. - Teacher Sometimes there are moments in life that create the opportunity to experience a paradigm shift, reading this book created such an opportunity for me. Now it's up to me to make it stick! - Parent I enjoyed this book because the author gives many tips for dealing with bullies that empower the child being bullied and help them keep them from developing a victim mentality. I like how she includes reasons why people bully and how to not take it personally. I also like how she advises that sometimes someone isn't being bullied, they are just sensitive to comments. - C. Nelson This book seemed to me to be relevant to all age groups. It's about much more than bullying. It's a lesson in how to defend ourselves. Enjoyed it. - Nancy A great guide for children who are excessively teased by siblings or at school. Inspires confidence building and teaches effective communication skills. - Jess A must read for all parents and educators. I have had my teenagers read this book too! - A. Byman Sometimes words do hurt, but in a world where bully is thrown at every Tom, Dick, and Harry this book gives great insight to help children develop coping mechanisms, be emotionally confident, and bully proof. - Lacey Smart
