Reviews

Each chapter is full of practical examples that can be photocopied to help staff and parents remember, as well as useful handouts/posters, and also printable resources which can be accessed using an online code. I was impressed with the STAR strategies in the a /Direct Teaching of Vocabularya chapter (Select, Teach, Activate, Review) and now use these steps to help education staff teach vocabulary effectively in their setting. School staff have reported the STAR process easy to remember and helpful in their work. a /Teaching Conceptsa is another great chapter full of ideas for activities (based on the STAR process) for many concepts e.g. below, full, early, heavy. These pages could easily be given to a teaching assistant to work through with a group, and have saved me planning time when preparing therapy sessions. In summary, Word Aware is a great resource for anyone working with Early Years children and I would highly recommend it. It has a good mix of theory and practical activities which can be put into practice immediately with education staff and parents... we were so impressed we have ordered the original Word Aware for our older students! - Emmy Pratt, Speech and Language Therapist With the addition of online resources the user is able to adapt the techniques and strategies to add new words. Ideal resource for EY foundation settings.. - SEND magazine, Sept 2016
