Wooden Decks and Fast Torpedoes

Overview

Wooden Decks and Fast Torpedoes is my second book regarding the use of PT Boats in the South Pacific during World War Two. Although the book is considered Historical Fiction, all dates, Island names and battles are historically accurate. It's gauranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat as you read about the life and death issues these young sailors face on a daily basis. Being raised in a Naval Family with an Admiral for a father, young Price Beaumont is all but fed up with rules and regulations. However as Price loves the ocean and sailing, he decides to follow one more request from his parents and that is to attend Annapolis to become an officer. Although his hopes are to become a pilot he is assigned to ship handling school. After being turned down several more times for flight school, being drunk on duty Price runs his destroyer aground and is kicked out of the navy. Moving to Australia he skippers a tramp steamer throughout the south Pacific. When world war two breaks out the Navy comes looking for Price to put his knowledge of the South Pacific to work as the skipper of a PT Boat. He courageously fights the Japanese navy from the Solomon Islands, Indonesia and the Philippines and the battle of Leyte Gulf. After being severely wounded Price meets a French, Polynesian doctor in Noumea and falls madly in love with her. Returning to action Price continues fighting toward the end of the war until a kamikaze slams his plane into Prices boat, Nearly dead Price returns to New Caledonia where he is discharged from the Navy and decides not to return home, but rather settle down in the South Pacific with the woman he loves. The action descriptions in this book are gritty, realistic and true to form of what PT Boat sailors exdperienced. A great read for any one interested in World War Two.
