Overview

"The theme of this book is a reexamination of long-held traditions that have divided God's family into warring factions. This book consists of eight chapters, which chapters seek to remove the difficulties of interpreting the Word of God accurately. This book is a call to God's children to reevaluate and reinterpret the various understandings handed down through the centuries. For many sincere followers of Christ, the ""faith of the fathers"" has become the watchword for the accepted view of the church. Hopefully, these chapters will remove many obstacles that stand in the way of interpreting the Word of God more faithfully. First Timothy was written by Paul to a historical person (Timothy) in a particular historical city (Ephesus). The life-setting of this Epistle is essential to a correct interpretation. This book is intended to help believers to go back to the drawing board to see if what they have been taught concerning the role of women in the church is what the authors of Holy Scripture meant to convey. Our traditions need to be reassessed. As Christians, we must learn to read the context through the spectacles of the original audience. Dallas Burdette has been a serious student, teacher and preacher of the Bible for sixty-six years, supporting himself for many years as an agent for AFLAC. He has written numerous articles for religious journals, as well as many essays and sermons which are available on his website (www.freedominchrist.net). He has developed a keen interest in promoting unity among God's people through a more accurate reading of the Word. He has degrees (B.A., M.S., and M.Div.) from Amridge University (formerly Southern Christian University) where he also was Director of Extended Learning for five years. He holds the Doctor of Ministry degree (1999) from Erskine Theological Seminary."
