Overview

A tachycardia, or rapid heartbeat, is brought on by an additional electrical pathway that runs between the ventricles and atria of your heart in Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome. The additional electrical route is rather uncommon and present from birth. Approximately 4 out of every 100,000 individuals have WPW. The symptoms associated with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome can affect people of all ages, even newborns. Most symptomatic individuals initially notice symptoms between the ages of 11 and 50. Fast heartbeat events are normally not fatal, although they can lead to major cardiac issues. Treatment for Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome can halt or avoid heart-pounding episodes. Ablation is a catheter-based technique that can permanently fix irregular heart rhythms. Symptoms A rapid heartbeat is the cause of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome symptoms. People in their teens or 20s are more likely to experience them for the first time. The following are typical signs of WPW syndrome: Palpitations are the sensation of fast, fluttering, or pounding heartbeats.
