Overview

With Dignity portrays, with historic accuracy, the times and spirit of country life in the early 1900's in the Ozark Mountains. With Dignity is not your common love story. The poor but proud families that inhabited the small farming communities through-out the lower Arkansas mountains faced death, adultery, rape, murder, suicide, and insanity, all while maintaining their deep love and devotion to one another. They fought furiously to keep their pride and dignity, often at great personal loss. As you finish reading the last pages of With Dignity, you find you have a deep emotional attachment to the characters developed by the author Jill Leach-Klajic. You want to know more about these strong willed faithful Southern families.

Reviews

I found this book to be very interesting and informative. I would look forward to reading a sequel to it. The author's descriptions of the people and places made me feel like I understood what it was like to live there at that time. The life experiences of one particular family in a farming community were heart warming and then heart wrenching. Once you begin, you want to know how it ends. Eugen M An engaging look at the characters attempting to live together on the same mountain in the Ozarks. These characters have been carefully developed; you get to know them inside and out. And you cannot rest until you know what will become of them. THAT is good story-telling! Joy Willow, author of Weathering Cracks Jill Leach-Klajic tells a revealing story about an Ozark family held together by stubborn pride, fierce loyalty, and love. Leach-Klajic captures the unique voice and hardscrabble life of the rural South during the early 1900's. She delves deeply into the passions that lurk beneath surface politeness. Try as he might, patriarch Matt Hawkins cannot tame the seething grudges that threaten to leave his family in economic ruin. His wife and children pay a high price to keep the family intact. With Dignity is full of head shaking, heart rending moments that speak to the human condition. Sydney Avey, Author of the Sheep Walkers Daughter and The Trials of Nellie Bell I purchased With Dignity at Barnes & Noble in Santa Clarita. This book was really a good read...a story of families and their humanness...lots of short chapters for those of us who like to read before turning out the lights...however, I read the last 100+ pages in one reading because I couldn't wait to see how the story concluded. Lorraine K With Dignity is written with attention to detail. Well crafted characters claim the reader's sympathy and interest and inspire the desire to know the outcome. A series of domestic tragedies and neighborhood conflicts builds tension throughout. The heartwarming story focuses on a family's strong, loving bond and the ultimate healing of Sarah Jean's broken spirit. Don't miss this inspiring tale in which the meaning of the title becomes clear. Kristin Fulton, author of Sisters of the Soul
