Overview

When her widower father inherits a castlelike estate in the mountains of West Virginia, twelve-year-old Jen is thrilled. It seems like a wish come true. But she quickly realizes that not all change is positive. Her dad has a mysterious new girlfriend, Moura, who slowly drives a wedge between Jen and her father. Furthermore, Moura has an unusually strong--almost obsessive--interest in the antiques that fill the mansion, especially a beautiful glass globe that Jen finds hanging in a window. When Jen's cat accidentally breaks the globe, which Moura calls a ""witch catcher,"" strange things begin to happen . . . Mary Downing Hahn has written about fictional ghosts in acclaimed books such as The Ghost of Crutchfield Hall, The Old Willis Place, and Wait Till Helen Comes. Now, in this compelling young adult novel inspired by a true crime, she writes of real-life ghosts who have haunted her for most of her life. Ms. Hahn is the recipient of more than fifty child-voted state awards for her books. She received the Edgar Award for best juvenile mystery from the Mystery Writers of America for Closed for the Season. She lives in Columbia, Maryland. Amy Landon, Earphones Award-winning narrator, is a voice artist and classically trained actress with numerous film, television, and off-Broadway stage credits. Her voice can also be heard on many television and radio commercials. She has an easy facility with dialects, which she also coaches and teaches, and she is happy to find her lifelong obsession with books pairing up with her acting and vocal work.
