Language: German Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationHanns Hoffmann-Lederer Born on February 3, 1899 in Jena. 1919 studies at the Bauhaus in Weimar. In 1923 he became a Young Master and followed Johannes Itten to Switzerland in 1924. In 1926 he became involved in the construction of the Bauhaus in Dessau, then moved to Magdeburg, joined a civil engineering office as an employee. In 1929 he became a teacher at the Itten School in Berlin, where he also ran a graphic studio. From 1932–1937 he and his wife exiled to Kipsdorf in the Ore Mountains. In 1942 they were evacuated to Posen, where Hanns Hoffmann-Lederer tought graphic art at the Master School for the Designing Crafts. From 1945 he builds up the foundation teaching at the State College of Architecture and Fine Arts in Weimar. In 1950 he became professor at the Werkkunstschule Darmstadt, where he established a study program based on Bauhaus principles and from 1952 runs a studio for design. From 1963 he devotes himself to private teaching and artistic work at Haus 'Akron' in Esseratsweiler. Hoffmann-Lederer died on April 17, 1970.
