OverviewHarry J. Wedge is a contemporary Aboriginal artist who presents an insight into the realities and imaginings of contemporary Aboriginal life. The paintings are reproduced in 40 colour plates, each accompanied by a story told in Harry's words and organized thematically around the topics of colonization, mission life, and religon and social issues. A wide range of subjects are incorporated including the environment, the Royal family, alcohol abuse and popular television shows. Harry's pictures and stories aim to challenge racial stereotypes by presenting a diverse view of rural and urban Aboriginal life. In a short autobiography, ""My Life in My Words"", Harry recounts his childhood on Erambie mission, his teenage years in a boy's home in Muswellbrook, his introduction to painting at the Eora Centre in Sydney, and the evolution of one of the central figures in his work, Wiradjuri Spirit Man.
