When Thissily Windsome, an anxious twenty-seven-year-old librarian, stumbles upon a questionable ritual in the woods surrounding her apartment complex, she uncovers more than just a secret about her neighbor. She discovers hidden magical talent within herself, along with an enchanted world she thought only existed in the books she is oh-so-familiar with. It doesn't take long for the authorities of this newfound magical realm known as the ""Old World"" to catch wind of Thissily's unusual talent and her last name. The Elders, the demi-god leaders of the realm, summon Thissily and her unusual companions to the kingdom of Tarragon, requesting their help to stop a rebellion threatening to upend the balance as they know it. Throughout her journey, she realizes having magical powers isn't as easy to control as the heroes in her favorite stories let on, nor are enchanted worlds as perfect as she had imagined.
