He soon received important awards, such as the UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts in 2000 and the Cartier Foundation Prize in 2008. His work is in the collections of the MoMA, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, Centre Pompidou, Paris and Collection Museum of Old and New, Tasmania. He currently lives and works in Havana, Cuba.
