OverviewAfter William Lindesay's 2,500 km journey along the Great Wall in 1987 and marriage to 'Beautiful Jade', as told in Wild Wall-The Foundation Years, the couple settled in Beijing and Lindesay, born in Lancashire, remade himsel as the great protector of the Great Wall of China, fending off developers and litterbugs and devoting his life to raising awareness of the mighty edifice that is the Great Wall. William bought a derelict farmhouse in a hamlet in the shadow of the Wall, at Jiankou, and for more than two decades has made a living celebrating the Wall. In quixotic style, Lindesay adopted defending the Great Wall from modern attack as his personal cause, and his initiatives and rallying call have made headlines and been remarkably successful in jolting China's national consciousness into protecting its most famous but neglected monument. Wild Wall-The Jiankou Years is a Great Wall reality story, told frankly, soulfully, significantly and humorously. It accompanies the first part of William Lindesay's Wild Wall memoir, The Foundation Years. Table of ContentsReviews"""No one knows more about the Great Wall, its history and the threats it faces from modern society - Willam Lindesay writes about these themes with passion and huge commitment."" - Sir Christopher Hum, British Ambassador to China, 2002-2006 ""William brings the Great Wall of China and its history to life. His passion, his knowledge and his understanding of this incredible structure on all levels is unsurpassable. He was born to share the story of the Wall. I cannot recommend this book highly enough."" - Johnnie Walker MBE, BBC Radio 1 & 2 DJ ""Over the years I have followed William Lindesay's works with enthusiasm, both on the Great Wall from his perspective, and his life stories through the prism of the Wall. In this memorable book, the Wall and the man have become one."" - Ye Nan, editor of National Geographic (Chinese language edition) 2009-2013 ""When I met William nearly 30 years ago I used to jokingly refer to him as a 'wallnut' - he was so nutty about the Great Wall of China. Having little awareness about conservation or cultural heritage, I didn't quite understand what he was trying to do. Now I do. Now I refer to him as an eccentric Briton of the nicest kind. Wild Wall is the story of how a foreigner made a lasting difference to China's world famous but nationally-neglected cultural heritage."" - Zhang Lijia, author of 'Socialism is Great' and the novel 'Lotus' ""The sage of the Great Walls, William's authentic voice inspires us to protect the past and future of our planet and, most importantly, take action today."" - Gareth Fuller, artist and explorer" No one knows more about the Great Wall, its history and the threats it faces from modern society - Willam Lindesay writes about these themes with passion and huge commitment. - Sir Christopher Hum, British Ambassador to China, 2002-2006 William brings the Great Wall of China and its history to life.
