OverviewWhy Spiders Eat Flies is a pourquoi tale. A pourquoi tale answers a question. This poem gives us the answer as the friendship between a spider and fly develops. Sultan, whose name means ruler, and Amari, whose name means builder, both live in the jungle. They spend lots of time together, yet a particular time in Amari's life takes his focus off the friendship. The friendship is tested, and the outcome surprises both of them. As the poem develops, we see times of spending time together, having fun, becoming impatient, and dealing with disappointment. Ultimately, the question is answered, and friends learn that each personality should be respected.
