We will spare no effort to free our fellow men, women and children from the abject and dehumanizing conditions of extreme poverty, to which more than a billion of them are currently subjected. United Nations Millennium Declaration On September 8, 2000, some 150 UN member states, reaffirmed the action plan to halve the share of people suffering from poverty by 2015. A strange goal. In 15 (fifteen) years, the number of people suffering from hunger was to be only cut in half. Some 300 million people will starve to death in miserable conditions by the time the goal is reached, and then only 18 million a year. There must be reasons why every lunacy that can be bought is more important than elementary needs. Hunger, lack of drinking water, illiteracy, street children, old-age poverty, etc. exist in the 21st century not due to nature, but next to the existing riches as an accompanying aspect of the global market economy. Why is this so? Where the market economy is perceived as the best of all economies, where the invisible hand of the market, via the price mechanism, allegedly cares for the balance of offer and demand and therewith for the highest possible supply with goods and services. Or is the commodity trade, as opposed to the praise of the supporters of market economy, not harmless and to the welfare of everyone after all. The question of the alternative to the achievements of the global market economy begins with the critique of the political economy. The classic of this critical analysis - Capital by Karl Marx - thus inevitably enjoys a renaissance. The guy got it right!
