Overview

Travis explains how he gets special messages from television stations around the country. The messages tell him that people are conspiring against him trying to hurt him. Travis shares how his life changed forever when he started having psychosis. It was like everything he knew about his life was stripped from him and taken away from him by psychotic episodes. Travis' life was ruined in a year. It took just one year of psychosis for things to really fall apart for Travis. Travis was 19 years old. He had a full scholarship to Indiana University for music and the voices and hallucinations and all of the psychosis stripped all of that away from him in two weeks. Travis moved to Bloomington and began his college career. He was excited for a new beginning but after just two weeks there the psychosis was so bad that Travis had to drop out of school and return home for his parents to care for him. Today Travis is learning to cope with the voices although he does not watch much television at all because of the things that the characters on the television say and do to him. Even a simple newscast or sports center episode has negative side effects for Travis. Someone can be reporting on a sports story and then Travis shares that he feels like the television characters are out to get him because some of the messages that he is receiving. In this book you will learn what Travis does today to help him cope with watching television. Travis did not want to be completely defeated by the Psychosis so he does the best he can to try and watch as much television as he can. Travis now has a coping strategy for determining what is real and not real that is happening on the television. This is a great book to give you insight into the troubled mind of someone with Schizophrenia. Here is an excerpt from the book. The television is just not an enjoyable thing for me anymore. It makes it a pretty boring day when you are not able to sit and watch a television program. When I try and watch the news it is all about me and talking about me telling me things that are happening to me or going to be happening to me. When I was a kid I used to watch Sports Center and the news each and every morning before going to school. Watching and enjoying the television was not even remotely a problem for me until I hit the age of 19 years old.
