In the years before social media, students who appeared weak or shy were often targets of bullies in school. Now, through social media, those same students are vulnerable to even more bullying at home, through their phones or computers. What are we to do? Written from the perspective of one who has served on the front lines of education and seen first-hand both the circumstances that create bullies and the impact of their behavior on others, Why Do Bullies Bully? explores the pyschological and sociological forces that lie at the root of bullying behavior, and offers a way to not only curb the behavior of bullies, but to help them find ways to build positive self-esteem and eliminate the need to bully others altogether. Sherry Skramstad was a special education teacher for thirty-three years. She holds a Bachelors degree and a Masters Degree in Special Education from the City College of New York. Ms. Skramstad has taught in public elementary schools, middle schools, in two New York State prisons and at the Job Corps in Callicoon, New York.
