Table of ContentsReviewsThis book immediately hooked me with its introduction, which describes Dian Fossey seeing, smelling, and interacting with gorillas for the very first time. This engagement with both the story of Fossey and the science that is embedded within the story is present throughout the remainder of the volume. The book is filled with factual information, yet is written in a manner that makes both Fossey and her gorillas come to life for the reader. The story of Digit is particularly poignant, as Chapter 1 begins with how Fossey met the gorilla, and includes a description of how Digit was later killed while in early adulthood and was one of the impetuses for her work in saving the gorillas. The pictures of the gorillas and Fossey are thoroughly enjoyable. The book also contains maps and photographs of the mountain areas that served as Fossey's science labs. The organization is by chapters, and there is a table of contents, as well as a time line of Fossey's life, a glossary, suggestions for further reading, a listing of Internet sites where readers can find more information about Fossey and mountain gorillas, and an index. Chapter 8 What Does the Future Hold? invites the reader to do further research and to engage in discussions surrounding taking care of our environment and world. This is a very enjoyable book, and young readers will learn much from it., Science Books & Films December 2009 Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
