OverviewWhite Nights A Play By B. K. De Fabris (Drama, 2 Men, 1 Woman, Exterior) B. K. De Fabris brings us a new and engaging stage adaptation of a short story by F. M. Dostoyevsky - probably the greatest Russian writer of all time. White Nights is a subtle, yet powerful story of four nights in the solitary life of a sensitive young man who defines himself as a dreamer . One night, as he walks the back streets of St. Petersburg, he comes upon a young woman standing on a bridge, sobbing. Despite his reticence, he finds himself eager to speak to this amiable stranger, and a sudden accident brings them into conversation. The lovely lady misses her lover, but the young man falls in love with her and pours out his soul at her feet. Will his affection be returned? Could he find happiness in a real life, or is he condemned to be lost in his dreams forever? However that may be, what finally comes out of this chance meeting of two lonely people is a psychologically nuanced masterpiece of solitude, melancholy and love. Dostoyevsky had written the short story in 1848, and there have been several film adaptations worldwide, including Italian director Luchino Visconti (Le notti bianche, 1957), French director Robert Bresson (Four Nights of a Dreamer, 1971), and American director James Gray (Two Lovers, 2008).
