Whispers in the Golem's Shadow

Overview

Whispers in the Golem's Shadow In a mystical version of Prague, a Greek scholar named Dr. Petros Komnenos arrives in the city's ancient quarters, seeking access to manuscripts with dangerous, and possibly supernatural, knowledge. He begins a research project focused on consciousness preservation, recruiting a bright but naive student, Jan Novák, as his assistantUnbeknownst to Jan, Dr. Komnenos is a vampire who plans to use his research to systematically corrupt Prague's spiritual defenses. Dr. Komnenos's activities draw the attention of Detective Frantisek Černý, Rabbi Samuel Löw, and Professor Karel Doleza. They discover that Komnenos is not acting alone, but as part of an international network aiming to seize spiritual control of Central Europe. He uses his research as a cover to perform rituals that harvest spiritual essence, eventually murdering and draining Jan Novák to use his soul as raw material for his dark ambition The city's traditional guardians-the police, the university, the Jewish and Catholic communities-are forced to unite against this new type of threatAs the winter solstice approaches, Dr. Komnenos begins his final, city-wide ritual. In response, the defenders of Prague awaken the legendary Golem to fight alongside them. With the Golem's guidance, the combined forces of Prague's institutions confront the vampire. They succeed in disrupting his plans, but Komnenos escapes, leaving the city permanently scarred and its defenses weakened.
