OverviewOn the wide prairie, friendship begins in silence. On the wide Missouri prairie, ten-year-old Emeline O'Connor knows how to listen-to the wind moving through tall grass, to the rhythm of farm life, to the steady comfort of her family's love. But when a new neighbor boy arrives-one who does not speak and seems to live by different rules of sound and silence-Emeline realizes there are many kinds of listening she has yet to learn. As she navigates chores, friendships, and misunderstandings, Emeline must decide whether she is brave enough to slow down, pay attention, and truly see someone who communicates in ways unfamiliar to her. With patience, kindness, and a growing understanding of the world beyond her own experiences, she begins to discover that some of the most important conversations happen without words at all. Whispers Across the Prairie is a tender historical novel about empathy, friendship, and learning to listen with the heart. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationChickadee Glass, LLC (custom stained glass) formally retired after 35 part-time years and a new ambition - writing - became Chickadee Words, LLC in 2016.Of the many jobs I've held in the past, teaching was one of the most enjoyable for me. Investing in kids is so important. To this end, I continue to encourage good character with clean, moral stories kids and teens love to read. Do you have favorite books that have shaped your worldview? Writing is hard work, but there's nothing like a good story to run off with your imagination. When things are flowing, it's like a vacation! Sometimes the best ideas come in the middle of the night. When not writing, you'll find me painting with watercolor, visiting schools, writing a blog, interviewing other writers, designing websites, working as an administrative assistant part-time, and occasionally, renovating houses. Is this retirement? Apparently so! I'm loving every minute of it with my husband of 44 years. I was born and raised in Trento, Italy, alongside one brother and two sisters. From an early age, I loved books, excelled in art, and dreamed of becoming an illustrator. Although my parents encouraged me to pursue a more practical path, I trained and worked as a nurse for a time before choosing to follow my creative ambitions.Determined to build a life in art, I moved to London to study English, then to California, where I worked as an au pair before enrolling at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and from there began my professional career as an illustrator. For over twenty years, I have illustrated children's books, bringing stories to life through warm, expressive imagery. Alongside my illustration work, I teach art part-time in a primary school, where I enjoy helping young artists discover their creativity.I now live in New Zealand with my dog and am planning a move to Europe, where I look forward to continuing my illustration work and developing new creative projects.
