OverviewIt looks into the lives of three siblings who lost their parents through bystander casualty during an aggressive raid by soldiers who were retaliating the murder of a colleague by a group called OPC and, in the same vein, seeking to put an end to the brutality of the group which was also terrorising Onireke, a community in Ojo, Lagos, Nigeria. The siblings, Michael, Hanna, and Jackson, who faced severe financial challenges due to the civil unrest and economic lockdown in their community, remained inseparable and did not become socially entangled. However, one day, while Michael and Hanna were trying to save the life of their little brother, Jackson, who became acutely ill due to malnutrition, they decided to kill their beloved dog, Tesky, to provide food. Michael could hardly hold his heart while he put a knife through Tesky's neck; he cried furiously, prayed, and asked Tesky to understand their situation and to forgive them. Tesky, on the other hand, while lying quietly and still as Michael held its neck, seemed to have accepted his supplication. This novel is rich in depicting what happens when a society is left unchecked.
