Author Information

Katey Howes (1977–2024) was an award-winning poet and author of picture books including Woven of the World; Rissy No Kissies; A Poem Grows Inside You, a Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award Honor Book; and Be a Maker, a recipient of the International Literacy Association’s Social Justice Literature Award. She was a passionate crafter, a frequent contributor to parenting, literacy, and STEAM websites, and she especially loved working to restore native plants to the woods and wetlands around her Pennsylvania home. Beth Krommes received the Caldecott Medal in 2009 for The House in the Night by Susan Marie Swanson. She has illustrated a number of other highly acclaimed picture books, including Blue on Blue by Dianne White and Swirl by Swirl: Spirals in Nature by Joyce Sidman.
