Where Much Is Given: My Life as a Daughter, Wife, and Mother Among My People, the FLDS Mormons

Overview

I was born into a family with one father, a bunch of mothers, and dozens of siblings. Life was a series of events that I classify as high adventure! I married into a family with one father, a bunch of mothers, and dozens of children. Every child was wanted, and nobody was an accident. Life was filled with laughter and tears, and more adventure. We were Mormon Fundamentalists. Our focus was God, faith, family, and community. Multitudes believe that all people are God's children. Do we suppose that all of us gazillion kiddos were born to just one mother? Poor Mother. Could it be that the human family came from many mothers? My faith taught that we have been called of God to come to earth and live the Family Order of Heaven. Most people have forgotten their former existence in heaven; yet for some, a spark of memory remains. Most people say polygamy is strange, and many call it heathen. Some condemn it as immoral and abusive. For me, it was all about love. This is my LOVE STORY.

Reviews

I doubt anyone could block their ears and wilfully ignore a story written so beautifully. I dare say that even the most uninterested in religion, Mormonism, plural marriage, or the philosophy of WHERE MUCH IS GIVEN would still struggle to put it down on account of Maggie's extremely engaging writing style. What an extraordinary series of experiences! Seldom does one hear, these days, a life story told in the spirit of gratitude rather than regret or discontent. I have been convicted of my ingratitude through reading Maggie's account. One thing that struck me particularly was the way she described her father, mothers, and siblings. How beautiful! I recognized many of the names of Maggie's family members from ex-FLDS members' books. I imagine that even those family members who might have left their faith will favour Maggie's descriptions of them. Physically and intellectually, she chooses to share the positive things about others. When giving a lesser friendly account, she doesn't name names. That speaks for itself. ZJ Perth, Australia
