Where is my Sister?

Overview

Polly Brown and her husband Ralph lived, worked, and raised their children in Pakistan for 35 years. During that time she forged deep friendships with Muslim, Christian and Hindu women who became sisters to her. In this book she tells their stories. ""What a wonderful book! Pauline Brown invites us into her home and the homes of her Pakistani friends - ""sisters"" - and as we become familiar with their lives and culture and customs, we also get a glimpse into their hearts. Pauline opens her heart through the stories of individual women, from many walks of life and faith, who first became friends and then, over time, true sisters of the heart. She relates how these women taught and touched her heart and life even as she shared with them her life - and the light and life and love of Jesus. These stories leave an indelible impression of her dear ""sisters,"" each with individual plots and some with uncertain conclusions, but all who have impacted the author and now the reader. This book does not stop with these stories. One is left with the challenge to look around, to step out of ones comfort zone, and to ask the question: ""Who is my sister?"" Miriam Rockness, author of A Passion for the Impossible: The Life of Lilias Trotter

Reviews

Where is my sister? takes us on a journey through the streets and homes of Sindh, Pakistan, where we meet women of different backgrounds. We sit with Pauline Brown in her kitchen, on the sofa in her sitting room, in the homes of Shareefa, Rasheeda, Meena (and many others) and hear stories that give us glimpses of their lives. Pauline Brown introduces us to a missiology of the everyday, what it means to be a wife and mother who responds to God's call and seeks to live that out in the relationships of everyday. These stories point us to the profound possibilities of faithful living. Cathy Hine, Co-founder, When Women Speak My generation is hungry, I believe, for stories of those who have gone before us and have fought the good fight, kept the faith, finished the race well. This is a story of that kind, a story of hard, joyful, satisfying faithfulness. Rachel Pieh Jones, author of Stronger than Death Where is My Sister? is a thoughtful and inspiring book, full of insights into the daily lives and spiritual journeys of women from southern Pakistan's Christian, Muslim and Hindu communities. Some of the stories are heart-breaking; others conclude on an uplifting note, introducing to a wider audience the often surprising interior lives of provincial Sindhi women whose voices are rarely heard. Jonathan Addleton, former US Ambassador to Mongolia and author of The Dust of Kandahar and Some Far and Distant Place What a wonderful book!
