Margie moved with her husband, Steve, from the mountain town of Vail, Colorado, to the sunny shores of Ormond Beach, Florida. While written in beautiful Florida, the inspiration for this story comes from Colorado where she, Steve, and their two sons lived for twenty-seven years. Like her late father, Margie has always loved the stars, which in Colorado seem so close and bright, you can practically reach up and touch them. The Big Dipper, which is actually part of the larger constellation, Ursa Major, began to shape into this story during her many evening walks under those sparkling Colorado skies.The main character, Scout, draws much of her personality from Margie. As a child, Margie was often in a world of her own, much to the frustration of her parents. In fact, her mom once took her to a hearing specialist fearing she was deaf, only to find out it was just ""selective hearing.""Through her story and simple illustrations, Margie hopes to encourage a sense of wonder and possibility, the quiet faith, courage, and love to embrace our own uniqueness, and the comforting realization that no matter what challenges life brings, we never have to walk through them alone.
