Overview"It is one thing to believe something; it is a whole other thing to defend it. But defense of a truth is as important as knowing it. If one believes a truth without being able to support it with evidence, an error can more easily take its place simply because of its following, or the fall of one, who advocated the truth, into error. The ultimate substance of a position is not the scholarship of the one who teaches it, but the source of its doctrine. That source is the Bible. The Bible is the master teacher, not the Doctors of Divinity. So, what does it say and where can you find it? It is easy to say go read it, but it is a large book. Where does one turn for various topics? This little book, though not exhaustive, supplies proof references for many of the great truths we know as Primitive Baptists. Interjections are kept to a minimum only to identify the purpose of the references or to hone-in on the point for which it is provided. I want the Bible to be the principle reason for every position and every doctrine. Finding and learning the Bible's body of doctrine is like tapping and marking studs behind a wall. One may mark several spots because the dull sound of the thump was heard there then draw a line connecting them. It is sure that the dots mark the places of the studs, but the line is a presumed path. Like Articles of faith, this work sets marks on the wall, the scripture references are the evidences of the soundness of their positions. If the marks are properly placed the pattern of Truth should become clear, and the more marks there are based on the evidences provided by scripture, the smaller the chance of error, but presumptions, drawn on assumptions, are not safe. So here I have provided ""marks"" and the evidences that the ""studs"" of truth are here represented so confidence of the truth may not be simply based upon logic or upon the reputation and eloquence of those who profess it, but rather, upon the actual Word of God that teaches it."
