If you were ever bewildered, intrigued or skeptical about the widely reported mystical-type events that people report near death than this is the book for you. In this riveting volume Ken Doka--a world authority on death and loss--offers to be your non-partisan guide through the array of unusual events associated with death as well as providing valuable advice to support people who experience them.--Allan Kellehear, PhD., FAcSS, University of Bradford, England, author of Visitors at the End of Life The topics discussed in this book are often complex and require the integration of sociological, psychological, medical, and theological concepts which Doka distills and conveys with clarity and ease. Perhaps most important, however, is the author's genuine compassion for those struggling at the edges of life and death and the pastoral presence he shares in recounting his own experiences caring for them. Doka's analysis and thoughtful counsel provide an invaluable and readily accessible perspective for professional and lay caregivers, as well as for those interested in exploring this 'last adventure.'--Rev. Marc D. Smith, PhD, for OMEGA--Journal of Death and Dying
