When Trumpets Sound

Overview

When the silence falls, the adventure begins. On the Island of Power, the air has grown heavy. The birds no longer sing, the waves no longer crash, and the people have fallen into a deep, lethargic sleep. The Sound Stealer has come-a shapeshifting entity that hoards shiny things and stolen voices-and with a single strike, he has silenced the soul of the archipelago. Eleven-year-old Mary Trumpet and her cousin, thirteen-year-old Asher Carpenter, are the only ones left awake to face the creeping corruption. Armed with a yew bow, a wooden shield Asher carved himself, and a small boat named the Resonance, they must embark on a perilous voyage across the five seas to reclaim the five stolen trumpets. Their journey will take them from the decaying forests of Life Island to the sun-scorched mazes of the Waterdrop Ocean. But they are not alone on the water. The Silent Knight-a relentless construct of stolen armor fueled by the Stealer's malice-is close behind, his black ship cutting through the waves with single-minded purpose. Asher must use his craftsman's eye to keep their vessel afloat, while Mary must find the courage to lead them through the ""Sea of Whispers."" Together, they must solve the Labyrinth of Echoes and gather the knowledge needed to confront the master of shadows in his mist-shrouded kingdom. The Sound Stealer hoards every melody ever played, every word ever spoken. If Mary and Asher cannot reach Hoard Island and play the trumpets in the sacred order, the voices of their people will be lost forever. In a world where sound is power, two children must find their own. The trumpets are waiting. The song must be restored.
