When Medicine Meets Artificial Intelligence: The Human-AI Alliance in Clinical Practice and Research

Overview

This book originates from a personal and professional journey. As a paediatrician and university professor, I felt the need to understand in depth where Artificial Intelligence has reached in medicine - and how it continues to evolve. In an increasingly digital academic and clinical world, one essential question guided my exploration: How real, reliable, and valuable is AI in today's medical practice? The initial search for information began as a personal effort to clarify concepts and trace the current state of AI in healthcare. Gradually, however, it evolved into a systematic research process. I relied on the most authoritative scientific sources - particularly PubMed and leading biomedical databases - combined with the assistance of generative AI technologies, used as instruments for analysis, synthesis, and knowledge organisation. From this process arose the desire to share the work with a broader audience: colleagues, researchers, students, and all those interested in understanding how Artificial Intelligence is transforming not only clinical practice but also biomedical research and scientific communication. The book is structured in two major sections. The first focuses on the clinical dimension, exploring the practical applications, advantages, and limitations of AI-based systems in diagnosis, prognosis, and personalised medicine. The second part is devoted to research and scientific writing, guiding the reader through how AI can support investigators in designing studies, analysing data, interpreting results, and preparing manuscripts for peer-review publication. Artificial Intelligence in Medicine - From Clinical Practice to Scientific Manuscript is not merely a descriptive work; it represents a path that unites the vision of the clinician with that of the researcher. From the patient's bedside to the scientific manuscript, it examines how AI can enhance precision, accelerate discovery, and foster a new form of collaboration between humans and machines. The pages that follow offer not only up-to-date and verifiable information, but also ethical, methodological, and human reflections on a subject that no longer belongs to the future - it defines the present of modern medicine.
