When Marriage Breaks: Tracing the Steps, the Fallout, and the Way Back from Adultery

Overview

Few experiences wound the soul as deeply as a broken marriage. Divorce fractures trust, shatters expectations, and leaves behind confusion, grief, and unanswered questions. When Marriage Breaks provides a biblically grounded path forward for those walking through the devastation of marital breakdown. This book does not rush readers toward quick solutions or platitudes. Instead, it acknowledges the real pain of loss while anchoring hope in the unchanging character of God. Rick Thomas helps readers interpret marital collapse through a theological lens-one that takes sin, suffering, responsibility, and grace seriously. When Marriage Breaks addresses the complex emotional and spiritual fallout of divorce. Readers are guided through themes of grief, shame, anger, regret, and fear, learning how each response reveals deeper heart struggles and theological assumptions. Rather than minimizing failure or assigning blanket blame, the book calls for honest self-examination and humble repentance where needed. A central emphasis of the book is God's nearness in suffering. While marriage may end, God's redemptive purposes do not. This resource helps readers understand how God works through brokenness-not to erase consequences, but to produce wisdom, maturity, and renewed faith. Restoration is defined not as reclaiming what was lost, but as learning to walk faithfully with God in a new reality. The book also provides counsel on navigating practical challenges that follow divorce, including loneliness, co-parenting, relational boundaries, and ongoing interactions with a former spouse. Biblical clarity is offered without legalism, and compassion is extended without compromise. This resource is especially helpful for those who have experienced divorce, those facing the possibility of marital separation, and those who care for them. Pastors, counselors, and disciplers will find this book a steady guide for shepherding people through one of life's most disorienting seasons. When Marriage Breaks does not promise that pain will disappear quickly. It promises something sturdier: God's faithful presence, clear truth, and sufficient grace for every step forward. Through repentance, trust, and obedience, healing becomes possible-not by rewriting the past, but by resting in God's redemptive care. This book offers hope for the wounded heart and clarity for the weary soul, pointing readers to the God who restores broken people-even when marriages do not. Life Over Coffee Publishers
