When Dystopia Arrives: A short story collection, Volume 1

Overview

A collection of five poignant short stories, all centred around the worlds with dystopian elements. These stories explore the impact on ordinary people of what might await us in the future. The following stories are included. Bloodletters In a world where AI took over most jobs, many ordinary people have fallen into poverty. Gabriel, a former software developer, is one such victim. Out of desperation to provide for his family, he joins a criminal organization that harvests people's blood and insulin for sale on the black market. Inside Closed Walls An enormous, town-sized sanctuary kept people safe for over 20 years despite constant tensions between different classes of society within it. Yet that safety may be more fragile than it appears. After a terror attack occurs within the sanctuary, a talented but inexperienced security investigator, Adeline, is determined to get to the bottom of it. But doing so could be more dangerous than she expects. Nymphoria A new start-up company hosts an erotic chat site with AI-generated online personas which use faces and voices of real people. Paige is an attractive young woman, and her struggles to find a job push her to lending her appearance to this site in a hope to make some money. However, the consequences of that choice begin to haunt her more and more. In My Reality Private investigators Alexzander and Jayn are given an important assignment, but Alexzander's inner turmoil and longing for his deceased wife, whom he sees with the help of an implant in his head, threaten to affect his decisions and mission as a whole. The Transit Trap A ship is transporting a group of prisoners to a space station on a routine mission like any other. However, this flight soon proves to be anything but routine.
