OverviewAs a piano teacher and choir accompanist, I have come to realize that many people struggle with reading music. They find it challenging to transfer written music notation to sound. A music note contains a pitch and a duration; this book focuses on introducing pitch to children. I am grateful to my mother and teachers, who introduced me to Solfege when I was very young. Being comfortable with Solfege helps me learn and understand music fairly quickly, which gives me more time to work on other aspects of piano playing. The project of writing ""What Song Would You Like Me to Sing? "" got started when I wanted to give my niece a special birthday gift. I thought that if her parents and I could read and sing the book to her periodically, she would develop a strong sense of the Major scale, which would provide a good foundation for her future music learning. I was fortunate to have found and hired Shuyuan Xu as the illustrator; his illustrations are so vivid and cute. I genuinely love all the pictures in this book. This book is intended for kids up to around second grade, with a reader who can sing a Major scale. Although the majority of the story is about Annyee and Nicku going to the library for story time, there are plenty of chances for the reader to sing the Major scale, and the book ends with a cute diagram of the Major scale showing where the half steps are and some important tonal tendencies.
